When someone dies, the emotional weight can feel overwhelming. For many families, this is made even harder by concerns about money and paying for a funeral is a big worry.

We want to gently reassure you: you are not alone, and there is help available.

"Can I Arrange a Meaningful Funeral on a Limited Budget?"

Yes... You can and we can help you do just that.

Firstly, It’s Okay to Ask

One of the biggest barriers we see is fear — fear of cost, fear of asking, fear of the unknown.

Speaking to your local Funeral Director is always free. You can ask questions, explore options, and take your time, no obligation and no pressure.

What Help Is Available with Funeral Costs?

Many families worry about how they will afford a funeral, particularly when a death occurs unexpectedly. Whilst every family's circumstances are different, there may be support available to help ease the financial pressure.

Government Support

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) may provide a Funeral Expenses Payment.

Funeral Expenses Payment

If you receive certain benefits, you may be eligible for a Funeral Expenses Payment through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). This payment can help towards burial or cremation fees and certain funeral expenses

Eligibility depends on your circumstances and your relationship to the person who has died. Full details can be found on the Government website, and we are always happy to point families in the right direction.

Bereavement Support Payment

Bereavement Support Payment is a separate government benefit available to some people whose spouse or civil partner has died. It consists of a lump sum followed by monthly payments for a limited period.

Eligibility depends on individual circumstances, including National Insurance contributions and family situation. Information is available through the Department for Work and Pensions.

They may also be able to guide you if there is other support available.

Money from the Estate

Many people don’t realise:

  • Funeral costs can often be paid from the deceased’s bank account

  • Insurance or pensions may also help to cover the cost and can sometimes be paid directly to the funeral director.

Affordable Funeral Options

Many families choose a simpler funeral arrangement to help manage costs whilst still providing a dignified and respectful farewell.

At Complete Funeral Care, we offer a range of options including:

We believe every family deserves clear, transparent pricing and the opportunity to choose a funeral that feels right for them.

Public Health Funerals

If no funds are proven to be available, the local council may be able to arrange a funeral for your loved one with restrictions.

  • No choice of date/time

  • Simple service - possibly lead by the funeral director

  • Ashes are generally not returned

Finance & Community Support

Some families choose:

  • Funeral finance options (e.g. Funeral Safe) - Some funeral providers offer payment plans that allow costs to be spread over an agreed period. These arrangements vary between providers and may be subject to terms and conditions.Families should always ensure they fully understand any repayment arrangements before entering into an agreement.

  • Community fundraising

  • Support from family and friends

Charitable Assistance

Some charities, benevolent funds, trade organisations and community groups may offer financial assistance towards funeral costs in certain circumstances.

This can be particularly helpful where the person who has died belonged to a specific profession, trade union, religious group, armed forces organisation or charitable society. If you are unsure whether support may be available, it is always worth asking.

You Are Not Alone

The most important step is simply reaching out.

At Complete Funeral Care, we are here to listen, guide, and support — with no pressure, ever.
