When someone we love dies, there is no “right” way to say goodbye — only what feels right for you and your family.

At Complete Funeral Care, we believe in offering choices that are simple, honest, and centred around what matters most to you.

Two options that many families ask us about are Direct Cremation and our Personal Farewell Gathering at the South Lawn Hotel.

While both are respectful and dignified, they offer very different experiences.

🤍 What is Direct Cremation?

Direct cremation is the simplest option.

There is no service or gathering beforehand. Instead, we take care of everything quietly and respectfully behind the scenes.

With our direct cremation service, you can expect:

  • Your loved one to be brought into our care with dignity

  • A simple, unattended cremation at a local crematorium

  • Clear communication throughout

  • Ashes returned to you as soon as possible

Many families choose this option because it removes pressure, allows time to think, and offers a more affordable alternative.

Some families then choose to hold a personal remembrance later, in their own way.

🌿 What is a Personal Farewell Gathering?

Our Personal Farewell Gathering offers something a little different.

Held in the peaceful Pavilion at the beautiful South Lawn Hotel, it creates a calm and welcoming space for family and friends to come together and say goodbye.

This is not a traditional funeral service — it is more relaxed, more personal, and gently led.

It includes:

  • Time to gather beforehand with tea and coffee

  • A Traditional oak Veneered coffin in place upon arrival of you and your guests

  • A service led by family, or a celebrant if preferred (at an additional cost)

  • The option for music and visual tributes

  • An intimate setting for up to 50 people

After the gathering, you are free to spend time together, while we take care of a private cremation separately (Included in the cost).

💭 What’s the main difference?

In simple terms:

  • Direct Cremation is a quiet, unattended farewell

  • Personal Farewell Gathering is a shared moment to say goodbye together

Neither is better than the other — it simply depends on what feels right for you.

Some families want privacy and simplicity.Others feel the need to gather, reflect, and mark the moment together.

💛 A gentle middle option

The Personal Farewell Gathering has been created for families who may not want the formality of a traditional funeral, but still want a meaningful goodbye.

It offers:

  • Less pressure

  • More flexibility

  • A softer, more personal setting
